New theory about how lupus might develop: Scientists
are reporting in the latest issue of NATURE, that they have found a set
of 30 genes that go awry in people with autoimmune diseases such as
lupus, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes. These genes regulate immune
system response and if they malfunction the body mistakes its own
